Eastham Walk-In Centre

The walk-in service originally closed on 15 December 2025 for a planned four-week period to manage winter pressures. However, the Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust stated, in early January, that the centre will remain closed indefinitely due to ongoing staffing pressures.

Lib Dem’s Eastham Councillors have repeatedly asked for an urgent meeting with the trust to press for the continuing operation of the Walk-in service. Figures show that the closure caused elevated visits to local GP practices that are already struggling with the volume of daily appointment requests. The additional burden placed on GP practices was unsustainable.

It is the only facility in South Wirral and to expect local residents to travel to Wallasey, or the extremely busy A&E at Arrow Park hospital, is ridiculous. We have argued that closures are a self-fulfilling prophesy, which lower attendance figures that the Trust then use to validate their decision.
Councillors Chis Carubia and Phil Gilchrist have campaigned and fought hard twice in the past to reopen and keep this walk-in centre and are pleased to say we have succeeded once more.
