Welcome reprieve for Glegg Arms
The iconic Glegg Arms has been saved from demolition. Wirral's Planning Committee voted to refuse Whitbread's planning application on Wednesday evening by 6 votes to 3.
Elizabeth Brame said, “Planning officers were recommending approval, so the decision was a welcome surprise. It was good to see councillors supporting the views of so many Heswall residents.”
Initially, councillors were hesitant to give a clear opinion until the Lib Dem Chair, Councillor Stuart Kelly, argued that the potential benefit of extra bedrooms did not outweigh the complete loss of this heritage asset.
In the end, Councillor Kelly was supported by Green and Conservative councillors.
The three Labour members voted against his proposal.
